Sunny Point Cafe
A neighborhood favorite since 2003, Sunny Point Café serves award-winning breakfast, brunch, and lunch daily. On weekends the wait for a table can be long, but they have the best waiting “room” in Asheville with a kitchen garden immediately behind the restaurant that customers can enjoy. Sprinkled among the beds of flowers, herbs, and produce are benches, chairs, and tables where you can relax while you wait. Their bakery, Rabbit Hole, next to the garden is a wonderful place to grab snacks and beverages to take into the garden, including their award-winning Bloody Mary, super size Megamosa, and of course freshly brewed coffee.
Reservations are not available. Simply check in with the host upon arrival to get your name on their list, order a drink, and wander through the garden or sit on the shaded patio area and enjoy music and people watching as you wait. They’ll text you when your table is ready. Please note during peak busy times larger parties may be divided between multiple tables to ensure excellent service and faster seating times.
Parking is available in the paid lot across Haywood Road. There is a small free parking lot between next to the cafe which includes two accessible spaces. Street parking is free in West Asheville both along Haywood Road and side streets.
Wondering what to order? Sunny Point Café was recommended in The MICHELIN Guide 2025 which gave shout outs to the Chicken & Waffle Sandwich, Biscuits & Gravy, and Breakfast Sandwich. Locally, Food Fan Stu Helm gave a lifetime achievement award to Sunny Point’s Shrimp & Grits, and then retired the category. The Huevos Rancheros was one of four dishes nationwide acknowledged as Best Breakfast Dishes in America by Good Morning America. And for 16 years Sunny Point Café has come in first for Breakfast and Brunch in the Best of WNC readers’ pole conducted by the Mountain Xpress. You honestly can’t go wrong with anything you order. Maple-black pepper bacon anyone?
Personally, we love checking out the specials, especially during garden season when ingredients for those dishes is harvested from their very own garden. If you are vegetarian, vegan, or need gluten-less meals, they do have many dishes that will delight you, however they do not have a separate area for preparing these so cross-contamination is possible.
