Diatribe Brewing
Diatribe Brewing is one of the newer breweries to Haywood Road, but comes with a super high level of brewing expertise resulting in exceptional beers. It is also truly a neighborhood taproom, with many regulars who can walk from their homes to enjoy a pint and conversation. If you are looking for a place where beer nerds congregate (we often spot brewers from other places in town enjoying their time off) and there are no TVs to distract you from interesting conversations, Diatribe is the brewery for you.
The brewery is owned by Dave and Betty, who live in West Asheville, so this is their neighborhood too. Dave is the Head Brewer and Betty handles all the rest, including painting the lovely mural on their outside wall.
Inside, the space is open and light, with a high ceiling and lots of seating of various heights and configurations including stuffed chairs in front of an electric fireplace. There are outside tables in the small enclosed area facing Haywood Road and picnic tables out back perfect for larger groups or shared spaces. There is a roof over some of those picnic tables and personally we love sitting out there during a summer rainstorm.
There is always an amazingly diverse variety of beer styles on tap – see their website for current offerings or check the board above the bar. Dave has won many awards for his beers and is recognized as a top brewer. If you are curious about a beer style we highly recommend this be the brewery where you try something new. As an active beer judge himself, Dave is known for brewing distinct beers true to style so you will be tasting something authentic. They also have a few gluten-reduced beers, wine, sake, cider, and several NA options both beers and sodas.
They also sell cans to go, see the cooler next to the bar. Note that currently Diatribe doesn’t distribute so this is the only place you can purchase their beers. Well worth stopping in to stock your home or vacation fridge.
See their website or social media for the weekly food truck schedule, but even on days there isn’t a food truck you can gets snacks from the bar, or you are welcome to bring in to go food or pack in a picnic.
The brewery space encourages conversation, perhaps a diatribe, as well as hosts regular weekly events such as trivia night on Mondays and an Irish music session on Tuesdays. See their website for the calendar or visit our calendar page.
Parking
There are a handful of parking spots immediately next to the brewery. There is also parking across the street along the east side of W Greenbrier Road and other streets in the neighborhood behind the brewery. There is no parking along Haywood Road in this section of the street.
A bike rack is located next to the door.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, well-behaved dogs are always welcome.
Are children allowed?
Diatribe is not really a child friendly brewery, as there is nothing for them to do there and no play area. Well-behaved kids are of course allowed, but they may be really bored, unless you bring your own table-top games.
