The Whale:: A Craft Beer Collective

craft beer :: wine :: cider :: seltzer :: CBD drinks :: NA

The Whale showcases unique offerings that aren’t the same beers served at other bars around town. They handpick a selection of world-class craft beer from around the globe while paying special attention to quality and history. They also brew collaborative beers with local and regional breweries that are “Whale Exclusives” and always worth getting.

If you are looking for unique beers to try, this is the place you want. The vibe is casual and friendly, and asking questions about the beers is welcomed. The Whale is all about expanding your tastes and letting you explore beer styles you may never have tried before. You can view what is on tap on their website, but remember they also have an extensive selection of cans not listed there.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome inside and on the patio. Food can be ordered from Haywood Common which fronts Haywood Road immediately nextdoor. They’ll give you a buzzer to alert you when your food is ready to pick up. Keep in mind that alcoholic beverages purchased at The Whale can not be carried into Haywood Common, so grab your food and bring it back to your chosen table to enjoy. You are welcome to sit inside or out.

The Whale and Haywood Common have a shared outdoor seating area with large picnic tables under umbrellas perfect for groups. The Whale also has covered outside tables immediately next to the bar. Inside you”ll find bar seating and share tables with small tables along the walls and a whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling. How often can you say you raised a pint to a whale skeleton?

As a community gathering place, The Whale also hosts many weekly free events, such as tiny art Tuesdays, and mini festivals, including special brewery releases, and their now famous Early New Year’s Eve Party. Follow them on IG @thewhaleavl for the latest and check out our calendar for regularly scheduled events.

If you’ve picked up our West Asheville Map in the past you may have seen The Whale featured on the 2022 cover.
