Parks & Greenways

West Asheville is bounded by the French Broad River to the east and south providing numerous water-based recreation opportunities—from canoeing and kayaking, to fishing, or floating on an inner tube for a lazy day on the river.

For those that prefer to stay dry, there are a multitude of options utilizing the resources available in our public parks and along our greenways. Carrier Park is the largest area park boasting extensive options for playing both organized and impromptu sports ranging from volleyball to lawn bowling. Carrier Park also hosts numerous events, races (both running and cycling) and festivals throughout the year.

Small neighborhood playgrounds are located at the local community centers and public schools.

A short drive from Haywood Road, in the Emma community, is the Richmond Hill Park featuring a series of unpaved trails and a disc golf course within 180-acres+ of natural wooded terrain overlooking the French Broad River.

West of Haywood Road, in Enka-Candler, is the Buncombe County Sports Park which has extensive fields and hosts numerous organized sporting events throughout the year.
