Witches, monsters, graveyards and ghoulish pumpkin faces cover yards in spooky scenes and everywhere you go there is talk of costumes. Now where do you go to show off that fine witch’s hat and toast the season with a brew? Read on for a list of happenings where you can strut your award winning costume and dance the night away, dig into some ghoulish themed ice cream, get in the mood with spooky music, participate in a group costumed bike ride, or trick-or-treat with the family. Many events are free entry, food/beverages for purchase. Door covers/entrance fees are noted.

We’ve starred featured ALL AGES events to make family adventure planning easier. Other events may allow children for certain hours. Please check with the location.

Thursday, October 26

Halloween Weekend Kick Off Party
Cascade Lounge • 219 Amboy Road • 7:30pm-12:30am
Kick off the Halloween Weekend with Cascade Lounge & DJ Oso Rey! Halloween Costume Contest, cheap drink specials, FREE photo booth by Spotted Dog Photography and Reggae/Hip Hop/Soul/Funk all night long.

Friday, October 27

Flights for the Living Dead ***ALL AGES ***
The Hop Ice Creamery • 167 Haywood Road • 3pm-9pm
Calling all ghosts and ghouls, zombies and vampires. This night of ice cream is for you! Flavors on the menu will appease appetites of the living dead. Available to purchase by the scoop, pint, or an Ice Cream Flight of 4 tasters.

Haunted House at Rainbow Community School ***ALL AGES ***
Rainbow Omega Middle School • 60 State Street • 7pm-9pm • $5
Silly and scary walk-through options available. Part of the Rainbow Community School Halloween Harvest Hoedown annual fundraising event. See Saturday, October 28 schedule for daytime details.

HEX IV: Spooky Dance Party/Benefit for CIMA
The Mothlight • 701 Haywood Road • 8pm-2am • $5 cover
Come in costume or whatever freaky attire you desire ready to dance to DJ HONEY // DJ HEAVY CHARMS // DJ LIL MEOW MEOW. Get there early for a live performance by local hip hop artist *A MAC* and 15 minute tarot readings by the lovely and witchy Sarah Chappell ($5-$20 sliding scale). There will also be a photo booth courtesy of The Asheville Darkroom. Procceds from this event benefit CIMA(Compañeros Inmigrantes de las Montañas en Acción) which connects, strengthens and organizes communities to take action for immigrants’ rights in Western North Carolina. Saturday, October 28 – Daytime

Halloween Trash Pick Up ***ALL AGES ***
Burton Street Community Peace Gardens • 47 Bryant Street • 10am-11:30am
Come in your best Halloween costume and help us keep the Burton Street Community safe and clean. Meet at the Peace Gardens, do a short trash pick up then meet back at the gardens for cookies, cider and some scary stories! Please bring gloves or a trash grabber and a trash bag. Don’t forget to dress up!

Halloween Comicfest ***ALL AGES ***
Haywood Comics • 600 Haywood Road • 10am-5pm
FREE COMICS, treats (and some tricks…), giveaways, a neat Stranger Things prop so you can get a pic of yourself posing as Eleven and more. Enter a costume contest for a chance at a $500 or $100 shopping spree.

Haunted House at Rainbow Community School ***ALL AGES ***

Rainbow Community School Halloween Harvest Hoedown

Rainbow Community School • 574 Haywood Road • 12noon-3:30pm
Fun, games, music, food, bounce houses, haunted house, raffle and silent auction. This annual event raises money for Rainbow Community School and Children First/Communities In Schools, a local nonprofit committed to advocating and empowering children and families living in poverty. Free to attend. Tickets purchased to participate in activities.

Grand Opening!
Fleetwood’s • 496 Haywood Road • 12noon-12midnight
Although not specifically a Halloween event it is likely to be a welcoming place for you to show off your costume and catch up with neighbors. Stop off between other events and congratulate this new Haywood Road business. Bands, DJs, food, fun.

Asheville on Bikes Pumpkin Pedaller ’17 ***ALL AGES ***
New Belgium Brewing • 21 Craven Street • 3pm-6pm
Annual community costumed bicycle ride starting and ending at New Belgium Brewing. This year’s “Ride More” route offers options ranging from 4 to 12 miles traveling through RAD, Montford, North Asheville and Downtown neighborhoods. Post ride festivities include music, bicycle games, and a costume contest. Food trucks on site. New Belgium Brewing Liquid Center open until 8pm. $1 from each beer purchase donated to Asheville on Bikes.

Saturday, October 28 – Evening & Late Night

Third Annual Halloween Organ Concert ***ALL AGES ***
Trinity United Methodist Church of Asheville • 587 Haywood Road • 7pm-8pm
We highly recommend attending this spooktakular annual event featuring awe-inspiring music by Bach, Boellman, Rachmaninoff, Widor and more. Trust us, you haven’t really heard Bach until you’ve heard it played on a full organ. 17 year old Organist, Nolan Anthony’s playing is a treat and sure to get you in the Halloween mood. The concert is free of charge and open to the community. Come in costume and add to the fun! A ghoulish reception will follow the concert.

4th Anniversary Halloween Dance Party
Urban Orchard Cider Company and Bar • 210 Haywood Road • 5pm-11:59pm
DJ Malinalli will be spinning Halloween inspired international dance music all evening. The Costume Contest takes place at 11pm and has been known to require a dance off. Grub from the grill includes meat and no meat options. For those who dare, the annual Fire Flight of six limited U.O. Ciders made with chili peppers from Smoking J’s Fiery Foods is available and mystic readings (cash only) on-site provide insight to your current and future situation.

Halloween Costume Party + Beer Release w/ Fin Dog

Come get weird with us and celebrate Halloween Asheville style! Sinister string band, Fin Dog kicks off at 8pm so get ready to Monster Mash and bust out your best Thriller impersonation. We’ll be releasing our new BELGIAN (blood) RED ALE to make the night extra spooky. The winner of the costume contest will receive a growler and a baseball tee, so get in touch with your inner ghoul, werewolf, or minion if you want to win!

5th Annual Twerk or Treat Halloween Bash

DJ’s, beer specials, costume prizes and food trucks El Kimchi and Happy Lucky Food Truck. The gas pumps will be shut down so you can turn up and join in celebrating our favorite holiday!!

SHELLSHOCK Ghouls, Goblins, & Goths Halloween Ball

Put on your spooky finery or your favorite costume and attend this 8th birthday bash for The Odditorium. DJ Deven and Queen April spinning all your favorite Goth/Industrial/EBM/Alternative and Halloween dance music favorites.

The second annual Halloween Sunday on Beacham’s Curve! With a whole new gaggle of business open in the area this event keeps growing. Special offers and activities during the day include:

Tuesday, October 31 – Halloween is Here!!!

Yes, free comics for the kids all day. A perfect stop as you head to or from Vermont Avenue on Halloween evening.

WATM Halloween Market in The Mothlight
The Mothlight • 701 Haywood Road • 2:30pm-5:30pm
The West Asheville Tailgate Market will be inside The Mothlight and open their new hours from 2:30-5:30pm on Halloween. You’ll be able to get all your favorite fruits, veggies, baked goods, milk, eggs, cheese, and more. The bar will be open so you can grab yourself an adult “treat.” Come in your costume for a chance to win $50 in market tokens!

Vermont Avenue Halloween ***ALL AGES ***
Street Closed to Vehicles 5:30pm-9pm
Known across the City of Asheville as one of the best place to take kids for Trick-or-Treating, Vermont Avenue will once again be closed to vehicles so you can enjoy walking from house to house filling your candy bucket without having to dodge cars. Residents of this street prepare for weeks so you’ll also see the best yard and house decorations around. Even if you don’t have kids it is worth a stroll to check out all the costumes, however please note this is not a street party and alcohol is not permitted.

Trunk or Treat ***ALL AGES ***

Haywood Road Halloween Hullabaloo ***ALL AGES ***

After strolling Vermont Avenue stop in at the ORIGINAL gas station discoteque Halloween evening dance party. DJ’s, Deli Llammma Food Truck, The Purple People Feeder, beer specials, costume prizes and plenty of surprises!!!

Foulaween: A cancer benefit for Snatch the dog

Halloween night hijinx for a good cause! Taylor Howitt’s dog Snatch has cancer so The Burger Bar is having a benefit to help with the cost of treatment. Live performance by Foul Mouth Jerk (Foulio Iglesias) w/ DJ Jett. Also, for the 1st time ever in Asheville, a short live set with General Stoor aka Cialis Cooper aka The Human Happy Hour aka Big Baywatch aka LaCroix Jones Jr!
